Dream Requiem

A piece based on “Declare his Works to all Nations”, a (public domain) hymn by Dwight Armstrong.

History

This is my first composition ever.  It was inspired by the anime “Hibike! Euphonium”, and also by some very strong memories I have of the hymn with which it was inspired.  It is not a love letter, more a requiem, just as the title says.  It is intended to be powerful, evocative, wistful, and reflective.

It is heavy on woodwinds and brass, but relatively light on percussion.  Percussion 1 is crash cymbals, percussion 2 is a bass drum, and percussion 3 is a snare drum.  Difficulty wise, it is intended to be playable by a competent high school wind ensemble or equivalent.
